    Installation of New Bigger HDD

I am about to replace the hdd in my Inspiron laptop. It has a 60gb from new and I am increasing it to 160gb.

I am told that the Bios will restrict or partition the new drive to 60gb.

Can anyone explain in layman terms how I can change the settings to allow it to use the full 160gb?

I didn't see any issue mate. Just last month I replaced my HDD from 320 GB to 500GB and there is no such issue on the BIOS. Mine is HP Pavilion dv7. Just give a try and make partitions then install a fresh OS in your new HDD.
I have NEVER met a MAN so IGNORANT that I couldn't LEARN something from HIM.

The first thing to do is update the BIOS.
