Windows XP Defender virus

Hi everyone

Can anyone give an easy to follow fix for the virus/malware window that keeps popping up on my daughters laptop.

I use avast on my pc and have no probs at all, she had some malware programmes on her machine but the virus will not allow them to open to scan.

I googled the heading and tried some of the repair routes but they dont seem to do anything, any help here would be much appriciated.

can u boot up in safe mode ? your av might work then, malwarebytes is a very good av

The link and patch worked fine cleared all threats.....

It would only install completely after a new user account was added on the machine and the application downloaded into that user account.
