Have you tried using Disk Management?

Had to re-format the works pc the other day, windows setup decided it was a faulty drive.

Just put it as a slave in the machine (as had put own harddrive in, to save the invoices, technical data, ~~~~o files etc as a tempary job)

then right clicked on 'my computer', select manage, then 'logical disc manement' then formatted that way, re-fitted and away it went

Then put my harddrive as a slave, and swapped the ~~~~ and other files back.

BUT make sure you format the right drive.

Read somewhere (think on here) a user had a problem with a hardrive, did a simular stunt, fixed his harddrive and wiped his computer in one hit!

Hiren Boot will format your drive no problems.

The thing is if it takes so long you may have bad sectors in the drive which is causing it to hang or take hours to format.

Do a scan on the drive first to see if you have bad sectors and if these can be repaired.

Quick format should only take 2 minutes really.

You can try use ACRONIS DISK DIRECTOR SUITE 10. when it comes to HDD partitioning and reformatting, this app does it all.
Its NOT freeware though, so you need to buy it.

I would do a low level format on the drive. As stated about bad sectors, theses can be a pain for later on, a low level format will map the bad sectors and format others. Just set it off and leave it going
