Advent Roma 1000 Screen lcd issue.

I broke my LCD screen and I am trying hard to disassemble it but I find it really hard.So I decided to ask some good friends in this forum for some help.

I have changed and replaced LCD screens for laptops in the past but this one is a challenge.

Is nightmare to get the screen off because the bezel is making it awkward and I can't get it off too. I am sure someone here can help to overcome this problem.

Please Please help by sending me some instructions how to do it or if possible illustrated one to make life bit easy.
To get it done by a shop in Glasgow the price will be ?150.

    Laptop specs:

    Advent Roma 1000 ( Genuine advice don't buy one is S***te )
    Windows 7

please help as soon as you can. Many thanks. Salami

Thanks very much M8 I have managed to install the new screen.
Is a nightmare machine I had to disassemble every bit of it including the heatsink, wireless to get to the hinges and I separate the screen frame from the body then with a little bit of thinking I managed to get the bezel off to get access to the screen. the cover the run along the screen that cover the inverter from one henge to another is the big problem.
However it was a big job and no wonder the computer repair shops that know how to do it are asking for big money.

Thank you so much "pat kinsella". I will try to create an illustrated PDF format and post it in the forum, main-wile if any DK member own Advent Roma 1000 needs some help to change or replace the screen for it I am more than happy to help.
Now I am off to have some before I go = cheers.

is there any instructions on how to do this yet???

                Hi Salami,

Have you managed to do any instructions on this yet?

Alternatively, can somone point me to the specific URL instructions, instead of just saying "Google it"...

I've been through 20+ pages of Google, and have yet to find the instructions... :-(

                Thanks in advance...

                      GOOD LUCK

How to remove the Motherboard and LCD Screen from an Advent.
                      Remove power brick.
                      Release catch and remove battery.
NB. It is not necessary to remove the screen assembly from the chassis to remove the main-board. However it is necessary to remove the base to gain access to to the main-board to disconnect the screen assembly cables. So if you wish to remove the screen assembly, then remove the clip on hinge covers. Otherwise skip that step.
Remove three screws and remove memory/CPU/GPU cover.
Remove two screws and remove HD. One screw is hidden under warranty void label.
Remove anchor screw for DVD drive. Adjacent to and under right side HD screw.
Push on anchor and remove DVD.
Remove two silver screws in battery compartment. One to the left of battery connector. One under battery release.
Remove screw left side of HD compartment. (Silver screw furtherest from connector.) Leave the tiny black screw. This is one of the mouse assembly mounting screws and you don't want to disturb the mouse just yet.
                      Remove SODIMM.
Lift the clear plastic under SODIMM from left side to get access to screw H17 and remove screw. This is the KB anchor screw.
                      Turn the laptop over.
Release KB clips, turn KB over and disconnect the ribbon cable. Remove the KB.
Disconnect the ribbon cable for the leds in the top cover, the ones between the KB and the screen - flip up catch to release ? this connector is very delicate. (There was a small piece of orange Mylar tape holding my (broken) clip in position.)
                      Close the lid.
Remove the two centre screws between the SODIMM compartment and the battery/HD compartments.
Remove 11 screws around base. Leave two corner screws by screen hinges.
Now remove the two corner screws. They are longer than the other 11 above.
Using strong thumbnail, edge of credit card etc. to gently separate the bottom cover from the top by 1-2mm. i.e. release all the clips. Once it is free open a gap along the front edge and the side opposite the DVD. The bottom cover will be stuck at the video out port and the audio sockets. So gently prise the base past the video port and get an angle to free from the audio ports.
Now you can see the main-board.
If you wish to remove the screen:
Disconnect the screen and camera cables from MB. They are by the Ethernet port.
Unclip the wireless antenna cable from wireless board.
Remove the wireless card, you will notice there are 2 screws have the shape of hexagon unscrew them.
Remove the small black screw holding a bracket by the Ethernet port. This has a piece of shaped sticky heavy foil shielding attached. This should clear space for the cables.
I would hope that you can now turn the laptop over, fully open the lid, remove the keyboard hinge screws and remove the screen assembly. The cables will likely fit through the space provided by removing the bracket and foil.
notice on the bottom of the screen frame bezel a long black shiny plastic run from one hinge to another is not a part of the frame I think it has about 5 or 6 clips attached to the bezel carefully squeeze it gently between your index fingers and your thumps and pull toward you will hear the clips coming off then do the rest to replace the screen.
                      To remove the Main-Board:
Disconnect the screen and camera cables from the MB. They are by the Ethernet port.
Disconnect the fan connector from the MB - between Video out and CPU.
Loosen two screws holding heat-sink/fan assembly to top cover.
Loosen one screw holding heat-sink to GPU.
Loosen three screws holding heat-sink to CPU.
Remove all the screws and lift away the heat-sink/fan/vent assembly. Note the blue silicone pads between GPU and HS and between R36 and HS. R36 is beside CPU. Don't loose the pads, they bridge the gap between the top of the device and the heat-sink. They are heat conductive, expensive and hard to find.
Disconnect the audio & mic(?) cables from MB. Two connectors by DVD bay.
Disconnect the screen and camera cables from MB. They are by the Ethernet port.
Unclip the wireless antenna cable from wireless board.
Disconnect the mouse assembly ribbon cable from the clip adjacent to the HD connector.
Remove the screw visible on the back of the PC adjacent to the video port.
Unscrew the hex post beside the CPU. (This is where one of the 3 heat-sink screws fixed into, the other posts are round.)
Remove two screws from MB. One by DVD bay. One in corner by audio ports.

Observe that the MB appears to be free except that it is obstructed by the thin sheet metal plate that is the bottom of the mouse assembly. The sheet metal plate has a folded cut out (and an adjacent screw hole tab) that the HD connector is sitting in. This is restricting movement of the MB and preventing removal.
At this point you have a choice.
You can remove the mouse assembly and then remove the MB. However you will have to disconnect the ribbon cable from one if it's circuit boards. The connector is visible through a cut-out in the thin metal sheet. Access is restricted and I was not certain how to release the clip.
                      Or
Remove the two screws from the metal sheet closest to the HD connector. One left, one right. The metal plate is also anchored by a piece of cloth tape beside the HD connector. Peel that back.
                      If you are very careful, you can now by a combination of slightly raising the MB near the HD connector and lifting and bending the metal sheet get the MB out. Don't crease the metal sheet. The MB comes out at an angle to get the audio port away from the side of the chassis. The MB may be stuck;
Onto a layer of foam strip underneath the power socket.
A silicone pad on the other side of R36.
A layer of vibration damping near the audio ports.
So judicious wiggling to get it free.
You can then repair the power socket or replace the MB.
You might want to have a close look at the fan / vent and clean. Look for a layer that looks like felt between the body of the fan and the vent. No, it's not supposed to be there. Clean it all out.
Re-assembly is pretty much the reverse of above. However you will need to carefully clean the top of the CPU to remove the old paste. And also clean and polish the surface of the HS where it presses onto the CPU. Put a tiny drop of new HS compound (a match-head is too much) onto the CPU and spread it with a suitable instrument. I use a piece of clean thin card. The GPU and R36 have the blue pads. They don't need paste.
Concerning the power socket. In my case I suspect that it has been repaired before. When I looked at the backside of the board by the power socket there was masses of flux, it looked like the pad had been well heated and the solder on the positive pin was grey and not bright. And also the negative pins had blobby solder This is a mystery since the owner says that she never sent the laptop back to PC World for repair. Or to anyone else. Nonetheless I don't believe the MB left the factory like that.
After some testing I concluded that even though the power socket seems secure, the through plate (a tiny tube that connects the top side of the board to the bottom) that the positive pin sits in, had been disturbed and is broken away from the pads. It only made good contact to both side of the MB when pressure was put on the positive pin. No amount of re-flowing the solder on the positive pin will reliably fix it. Nor will a new socket. I soldered in some jumpers between the pin and the power tracks on the top and bottom to bypass the broken through plate. This Advent MB has very limited possibilities for such a repair especially on the topside. So in most similar cases I imagine a new MB would be required. And this would not be economical.

                      Good luck once more Guys.

                        Same proble on bezel removal

( COULD A MOD PLEASE DELETE THIS POST AS I HAVE OPENED IT SEPARATLELY ON ITS OWN THREAD) THANKS

Hi ive come for help as i`m totally lost now.
Ive been fixing ppls laptops and even built one from scratch for my son for xmas (all done under supervision) so i thought i had this problem sussed. I have been given a Advent Roma 1001 and all i had to do was change the screen. Ive bought the screen and now i cant get the bezel off the original monitor. The monitor seems to took under the base and its one long hinge that seems to be attached some how. All the Youtube videos are straight forward for screen changing but i cant find this model on there.
Could you please pm me the walkthrough also as as others have requested on the "how to change the screen on the Advent Roma 1001 model" i dont want to break anything trying to this. I`m sure you dont have to go through all that instruction (above post) to just put in a new screen .. i hope..gulp!
If i can just get the bezel off.......
                        Thanks inadvanced.
