A video capture card is probably the easiest way. If you have composite video out + stereo phono output on your VCR you can connect it to your card and record it to your PC.

    I have this...

Hauppauge Computer Works Ltd : WinTV-PVR-150

Or you could get something like this...

    Hauppauge Computer Works : USB-Live

Probably check ebay, there's bound to be loads of wonderful gadgets for this sort of thing.

Hi, If you need a fast way to convert lots of VHS's to nowadays formats you better use DVD Recordable Player with Harddisk(I bet some of you friends has it). Just connect yours VHS player to DVD adjust some settings and go! Then you can act like you wish - record content to DVD media or transfer it to PC using USB or FireWire. We are usig this method in order to help our customers to transfer video content from VHS to DVD mostly.
If you do not have abilitie to get recordable dvd player then the TV tuner will get the job done, but you have to remember to clean you HDD in order to have some free GBytes
        Cheers,
