There are programs on this disk I really need this windows version and so this hard disk has to work in another laptop.

Reinstall is not an option, sorry

All you can do is use the h/d in a caddy to make it into an external h/d.Then plug it into any working pc and try to pull the files of that you want. But thats all i can think of at the mo.

If i were you i'd use "mini windows xp" from hirens boot cd to boot up, then i would save all needed information to another external hdd

Dude if you want to save documents that you have in the HDD that can happen , but to repair that copy of Windows you must find the same Laptop , because will not work with different computers

I would use a USB 2.0 to IDE & SATA Cable and piggy back it and recover all data off your HD then I would format and partition the HD on piggy back and that should do the trick or just use our favorite MINIXP hirens boot CD and drag to a Portable HD !!!!

Take a Windows XP setup cd..
                          Start from it..
And when ask you second time what you want to do, choose repair...
                          Thats all...

                          I did it same today...
