My choice is Avast! with the correct code you can be registered for 3 years.

I was recently lauding Avast free anti virus but have noticed in the past few days that it has been slowing down start up and general surfing.

I've used Avast! for a long time and it doesn't slow down my system. A lot of anti-virus apps use a lot of system resources, I think you'll find that Avast! uses the least.
