can anyone tell ,if using a router would solve my dilemma,
i'm using cable broadband ,and i want to ping a d-box ,
would a router allow me to conect to the box , ip

you could hard wire a crossover cable direct from your pc to your dbox, then change the ip on your dbox to near the one on your network adapter on your pc, then it should ping ok.
