    hp pavillon (ram) problem

one day to the next my hp pavilon dv4 wouldn 't work anymore, screen stays dark, nothing happens. Got total 4 Gb ram, 2 slots for 2 cards. Figured out that the machines starts when i take out the ram card from second slot. both ram cards do work in the first slot (one at a time). The bios automatically configurates the ram size, so it is not restricted by this. did take out the real time battery for 10 minutes, restored system etc...nothing helped.
anybody can help me or has some ideas?

    Thank you.

if the second slot was faulty, wouldn't it cause problems always, wether ram is insertde or not?

no, it would only effect any memory in it so making the system unstable. if it's empty - it's fine.
