or maybe CD drive, hardisk, memory etc

or it is the same with my one CPU that I salvage. but it is only take 10 min and hang on during installing all function doesnt work even the power switch, I need to unplug the power to off and replug again then the power switch work. but when I attempt to install again the windows, it will hang again after 10 minutes, I choose to buy a new one

could be memory - it's trying to extract something and it's hanging.

as dik sugests try to get another installation disk, the data on the disk could be corrupt which does not mean the disk is scratched.

when windows is installing, it uses al lot of the RAM memory, so if a small small area in the RAM is bad it will frezze, also when other erors appear, like "win cannot find the xx file, please insert the disk labelled win xx and press ...... " , the same problem

You haven't said which version of windows you are trying to install femmym (only what your using to format). If you are trying to install win vista or win 7 your computer may not be up to it m8 as they need plenty of ram and fairly fast processor. Please tell us more about your puter.

Boot the PC using a DOS or ERD disk, then copy the i386 folder from the CD to the hard disk, if the disks bad you should get a file copy error.

If not navigate to the i386 folder on the hard disk and start the install using winnt.exe

                            Hope that helps

                              Hi!
Hi had the same problem many and many times...
By experience and like has been said here already, there's a good potencial that your memory is no good, or your windows disk...
However you should do something else before made your mind up....
Take you memory out and give it a good cleaning, oxidation can create a lot of troubles....
Remove all cards from PCI slots, AGP as well(If you are able to use the onboard one-if available), got to the bios and disable all on board hardware, like on-board sound cards, lan cards etc... leave the graphics if you are going to use it...
Try to install after all that...
Each case is diferent, but one of this things can be causing you problem...

                              Hope you get successful...
                              Hit Thanks if helped you!
                              Thank You for the help!
