What Operating System is it mate? XP/2000?

If its XP try starting in safe mode (F8 on start) somtimes the admin password is left blank.

or try this http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ im sure this is the linux disk I've used.

    All the best

Use Acronis True image or Norton Ghost to back up the PC.

In the event you have to reinstall Windows is better if you have a full system image to work with.

Once you have it backed up you can browse the image on another PC and recover your data.

Only problem maybe software , office etc do you have access to the installer disks and codes etc?

Acronis True image home is quite user freindly if PC's are'nt your thing.

The software allows you to create a boot disk, which in turn will let you back the system up to a USB hard disk etc.

you can try the following, when it comes to the login screen- press
control+alt+delete- press twice this should bring up a further login screen type in administrator no password then press enter.
                  hope it helps.

You could pop out the hard drive, put in another pc, reset all security for files in quesdtion. Pop back in and security should allow you to get the files

Can you boot the computer to a cd or usb drive? if you can you can just remove the admin password and login.
