    Laptop keeps freezing????

When i plug in my usb HDD or an SDcard my laptop recognises them and says they are working properly

Then when i start to transfer/copy files off or onto the HDD or SDcard i will either manage to get one file done or it will stop halfway through and cause my whole screen to freeze

I then have to turn it off and re-boot all over again

Its doing my nut in as my gf has requested a load of albums and i can put them onto her memory stick

    Any ideas whats up??

          i'm no expert but try,
          control panel, select classic view
          then open device manager
          look down the list
check for universal mass storage device..
if anything has a red cross next to it, then delete it. when you plug devices back into usb port,
          windows will re-install drivers.
          worth a shot....
i had exacltly the same problem with everything i connected using usb port,
          i.e. camera , printer
          worked for me

you might want to try using those thru a powered usb hub
            ,inexpensive and worthwhile

Try re-booting after ok message before copying.
Try reformatting and changing FAT to FAT32 or vice versa

Try to load BIOS default first, and also try to copy in safe mode (press F8 while booting and chose safe mode)

start up in safe mode, you can do this by tapping the f8 key
