Its a bit of a long tale but i swapped the original hd for a 2tb ssd,i want about 6 bootable partitions,it needs the uefi enabling in the bios,I am ok with that, the issue is i cant convert the drive to gpt when it has data on it,the issue is windows wont install to a gpt drive, there is a utility from hp to install the efi partition on the drive but it runs on windows, its a chicken and egg thing, can anyone explaine how hp did this?,I am pulling my hair out;it seems i need to run the hp uefi tool to make the uefi option work in the bios, but it needs windows to run this that wont install on a gpt drive,Hope i have explained my issue, can anyone help here,Just to add the old hd has since been formatted so no good in this situation, regards Paul m3vuv.

The only problem that I can think of is you have made mbr version of your installation media, that will not work with gpt hdd.Its a bit of a long tale but i swapped the original hd for a 2tb ssd,i want about 6 bootable partitions,it needs the uefi enabling in the bios,I am ok with that, the issue is i cant convert the drive to gpt when it has data on it,the issue is windows wont install to a gpt drive, there is a utility from hp to install the efi partition on the drive but it runs on windows, its a chicken and egg thing, can anyone explaine how hp did this?,I am pulling my hair out;it seems i need to run the hp uefi tool to make the uefi option work in the bios, but it needs windows to run this that wont install on a gpt drive,Hope i have explained my issue, can anyone help here,Just to add the old hd has since been formatted so no good in this situation, regards Paul m3vuv.
Use rufus to burn installation media as gpt or format the hdd as mbrHaynesPro 2026 online + AC/ Delphi 2023.20 available, message for where to get them! -
does rufus have an option to make a gpt install option from an iso? my main issue is if i want to convert the ssd to gpt it cant contain any data so strait away the efi partition is lost and it needs windows to install/create the efi partition but windows wont install on a gpt disk,it needs the efi partition for the uefi bios to work,as i said its a chixken and egg situation.Comment

Yes, rufus has that option. Copy your windows as gpt, boot from usb, delete all partitions to raw and install. The partitions are made during the install. You can further partition the drive once windows is installeddoes rufus have an option to make a gpt install option from an iso? my main issue is if i want to convert the ssd to gpt it cant contain any data so strait away the efi partition is lost and it needs windows to install/create the efi partition but windows wont install on a gpt disk,it needs the efi partition for the uefi bios to work,as i said its a chixken and egg situation.HaynesPro 2026 online + AC/ Delphi 2023.20 available, message for where to get them!Comment

hp elitebook 8730w uefi boot/windows install.
i tried that but rufus says the usb stick was made for a gpt disk and wont install as it says i have an mbr disk,my internal ssd disk has been converted from mbr to a gtp partition , also the bios has uefi enabled,it needs the efi partition on the drive tho but it needs windows installed to do that using the attatched hp file,as i said its a chicken and egg situation as windows wont install onto my gpt ssd.the attatched file has to be run to create the efi partition to make the uefi mode work in the bios ,but it has to be run from in windows but windows wont install on a gpt disk without the fike being run to make the needed efi partition on the ssd,as i said its a chicken and egg jobby,i wonder how hp made it work?.Attached FilesComment

Very strange setup. Can you plug ssd into another pc to format and make sure it is in gpt mode via disk management? Then install windows from your usb stick?i tried that but rufus says the usb stick was made for a gpt disk and wont install as it says i have an mbr disk, the disk converted from mbr to a gtp ssd tho also the bios has uefi enabled,it needs the efi partition on the drive tho but it needs windows installed to do that using the attatched hp file,as i said its a chicken and egg situation as windows wont install onto my gpt ssd,i wonder how hp did it?
The only difference between mbr and gpt is mbr can read up to 2 terabytes. So, if you had a 4 tb drive it would show as two 2tb drives, same goes for external drives. Gpt has a much higher hdd limit.
There should be no reason you cannot install the hp apps afterwards on a fresh install. You dont need them anyway. For my Envy, the only thing I need is the beats audio drivers. Everything else is not needed in my case.HaynesPro 2026 online + AC/ Delphi 2023.20 available, message for where to get them!Comment
