Win7 and LG GH20LS10 DVD Drive Issues??

I just built a new 64 bit rig and put in a GH20LS10 I had in another machine - updated the Firmware, etc.

The performance of this Drive is horrible under Win7 64 Bit - it takes forever to read and the 64 bit drivers from LG are a couple of years old - they don't specify support for Win7 only Vista. Not to mention this DVD drive is running hot hot hot. Never seen a DVD drive run hot before.

I am not sure if this is a driver issue - I thought Vista and Win7 drivers were typically compatible, but...

The next model up in the line is the GH22LS30 - it does have specific Win7 driver support. In fact the Win7 driver documentatio specifically identifies improving read issues.

So now what? Should I throw the drive in the garbage or try forcing the next set of drivers on it. Not sure if I would just be wasting my time though.

    Any ideas?

    i'd guess it's a waste of time.
Could be a DOA if you bought the drive new.

Otherwise I would spend 20 dollars on a new, compatible drive!

have you tried updating the drivers with device manager and let it search for new or newer drivers on line, it might be wiser to simply replace the drive with a new one as it sounds by your explanation of it running hot that the drive is on its way out.

Yeah I updated all the drivers and did everything I could think of - I'll stick it in an XP machine for now and buy a new one - maybe I'll drop it on the ground first LOL!
