    upgrading a socket 462 cpu

    Hey,

Just trying to squeeze more from an old pc. A few days ago I swapped 3 pc2700 512mb ddr for 2 1gig pc3200.

Now looking at the cpu. Currently using athlon xp1250 or so. Been running it at 2000hz, which seems fine...but have been thinking of the barton 3200.

Can anyone think of a better upgrade/overclock option??

The mobo is an asus a7n8x deluxe, and gfx is radeon x1950.

I can't recall the current cpu cooler, but it looks like a jet engine if that helps.....

The Barton 3200's are the fastest SocketA processor full stop.
They do run a bit hot, so as long as your heatsink is nice and big it'll be fine - dont expect much overclocking though.

      I would not overclock a barton 3200.

A barton 2500 wouldn't be a bad idea either if you can get it cheaper. They have the same multiplier as the 3200s, and I've never seen one that won't handle the 200MHz FSB that brings it upto 3200 speeds
