I ain't no expert so bear with me.
The sound issue is a driver problem which aint a big problem once you get internet access.
Internet access I would say plug your ethernet cable in and re-boot.. hopefully windows will pick up that there are problems and ask if you want to install generic drivers for the card.
If it doesn't, then go to control panel and 'Install new Hardware' and let it search for a suitable driver...

Once you have internet access, I would be temped to install 'Belarc Advisor' which will show you exactally what hardware you have, do a search for for the problematic drivers, and update them.

This is a start, sure some brighter sparks than me will help you further

whatever hardware you use to connect to the internet you will need a driver for that thats why it shows up as no hardware.
you will need find your network adapter so you can find the make and model you use, then you can find the driver for it.

no he will need a specific driver for the hardware as the installation disc only has drivers which enable you to load the o/s.

Did you recieve a system CD with the computer? If you did then you need to install the software onto the computer.

If you didn't get a disk with the computer you need to open the side & get the motherboard model number.

                i.e. Asus P5SD2-VM

You will then need to download the drivers from the Asus website. Going by your problem this will need access to another PC.

The other possibility is the modem/wifi dongle you are using came with a disk. Install that software & make sure you only use the USB connection until all the drivers are installed, LAN/Ethernet will not work until the drivers are installed for the motherboard.

it should tell you the name of the network adapter in device manager where all hardware is listed, the yellow asterik means that there is no driver for the hardware and cannot be used.

have you got internet access with another pc? Don't think getting the motherboard make will be any use, just go to the dell web-site and use the model number to get the drivers.

i have the same problem with my dell d630 laptop. the dell site has lots of different drivers. i don't know which hardware i have, so can't download. i may have to get a new wi-fi dongle to pick up the internet then download the drivers

In device manager, select the network adapter with the yellow mark against it.

                            Right-click > Properties...

Click the "details" tab & post the VENxxxx & IDxxxx numbers here.
                            e.g. PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1677&SUBSYS_01821028&REV_01\4&295 9CBDC&0&00E0

                            = VEN 14E4 , DEV 1677

From that, I can easily ID the drivers required.

I would try Windows update. I hard problem like that. Could not get online. But Window update got on. Did update and it had drivers for my system. Plus all the updates you need after fresh install. It's a try if not any??
