problem with mobile broadband

i hope somebody can help with this
my mate has a laptop with a 3 mobile dongle
every time he boots up the internet will not work, computer says the device hase been disconnected or is malfunctioning
the only way i have got it to work is unplugging the dongle reinserting it running the setup exe and clicking on connect and the it works perfect till the next reboot
to me this is annoying but not a problem but my mate can just about find the start button
this has only been happening for the last two weeks anybody know to get the dongle to start automatically

just a thought, is the software running on startup. if not try and move the app to the startup folder in the start bar..
