    Hi and welcome to DK

you need to start the program called RUN (normally in programs/accessories)
in the box that opens type msconfig and press the OK button
this opens the system configuration box
click on the startup tab and untick any program that you don't want to start
    apply and exit

if you are saying anytime you try to run a program Windows Media opens then you could have a virus or a damaged exe file

you can set exe back to default with this file from here fix_exe_setdefault.rar
