    Packard bell laptop

Hi, my old pb lappy hard drive packed up, mate put another one on, and a xp os, the os was a copy, and comes up as a copy when on the net, and all is running like crap now, I would like to delete this os, If I can, and do, would that leave me with a good hard drive, to pu another os on?, I did not get a disc with my lappy, but there is a windows code on the bottom of lappy, is this any good to me, hope this makes sence.

    cheers

Installing a genuine OS is the best advice I can give you, however your HDD should be fine M8.

If you can putt your hand on a OEM OS and format new hard drive install it then enter the Product key from the sticker that is attached to your laptop base it should be OK as well as you will be able get all needed up-dates genuinely from Microsoft website.

Why not try Ubuntu 10 on your laptop. You can run it from the cd first, to make sure all is ok. Download Ubuntu to a cd, or get a mate to do it for you, you will then have a really good free operating system and it will connect easily to the internet copying your network settings, before you uninstall the corrupt xp. Worth thinking about, for myself I have used Ubuntu for a number of years on an old computer, it runs sweet, and gives me no problems. Installing Ubuntu is easy now, no need to write commands, it installs straight off the disc!
