usb external drives not recognised

Hi Peepes
i have two external usb hard drives but when i plug them in none of them get recognised but if i plug a usb memory stick in the usb that is ok i have tried the external hard drives on my other computers and they both work but just not on this one p.c
i am using windows 7 and 2 gig ram so that shouldnt be an issue, any ideas please

i had the same problem
turns out it was because my new drive was unassigned.

try this:

1: hit atart
2: right click "my computer"
3. select "manage"
4. select "disk management" from list on rhs of screen

you should now see your external drive in list of drives with the word "unallocated" in box next to it.

5. right click on "unallocated" and select "new partition"

this will start "new partition wizard...."

just follow instructions to assign your drive a letter and format
