Do you get to load windows? Can you see the post menu? You enter bios by pressing the correct key as the bios posts (del-esc-f2), this should be displayed, usually press - to enter setup.
Select boot sequence and select the hdd.sigpic

The fact you took an hoover to it could be enough to damage the motherboard. To clean out dust from laptops/pcs you should use cans of compressed air, avail from most pc shops. I get mine from asda for ?3.nah i only did that cos the lappy was over heatin all the time ,,, and a load of dust and cotton fibre came out. i dont think this has any thing to do with it not startin , just mentionin incase .....the only thing i have done recently which is new is connect a new portable hardrive to the lappy and copy a load of movies to it from the lappy..... but cant see how doin this would damage the laptop too.... will try bios n see
But the overheating could have damaged something alsoCode:http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=112653
I want to know exactly whats happening? DOes the BIOS post messages? Does windows try to start then freeze, reboot? Do you get a BSOD? (bluescreen of death)
The above faults have differant cures.sigpic

bigfella dont waste your time M8 to start it because it will not unless if is fixed properly, I do appreciate all advices given in your thread I doupt it any of them will work.
Here is the reason all following hp models
TX1000,
DV6000
DV2000,
DV9000
Has faulty Nvedia chip. OK they are working fine when they are new but after some time Nvedia chip develop a fault because over heated.
Symtom of the Nvedia chip problem is.
1) Laptop all blue lights on power-board are on you hear the fan starting for a second or 2 and stops nothing happens.
2) All lights are on and nothing happens. Black LCD screen.
3) If laptop starts all you see is multi colour lines on the LCD screen or one side with wide colour lines in other half black.
All you need is either the chip to be reworked or re-flow there are 3 ways how to do this job.
Manually by the small gas torch, hot air or (IRDA) infrared solder machine.
My advice to you is don't do any of the 3 mentioned methods if you don't know how having said that it can be done if you do some googling or visit Youtube to get some info if you would like to fix it your self. I have fix it quite few of them buy using IRDA soldering machine.
Now if you decided that you gona do it with gas torch or hot air rework station you need to disassemble laptop to the motherboard is out of the casing, again you will need hp dv6000 service manual as there are so many hiding screws and tricky cable to be disconnected from motherboard.
I wish you all luck to fix your hp.
