    help computor died

    Hi

This is an on going problem I just thought I'd start a new thread as a new development has occured. My old thread is here with info - http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...oblems-172908/

I spent some time today swapping cables and takeing one of the ram stick's out - trying to see which one might be the problem - and some other things , including a repair on windows , but it's finally happened.

When I turn on the computor the fans start then the cd's start spinning up then everything shuts down. When I swap the ram it does the same thing , so my question is - do I start with the hard drive ( get a new one ) and go from there ? or am I looking at something else ?

    Thanks , Adam

Can you tell me make and model number of motherboard. Any Beeps coming from the system? Does anything at all come onto the monitor when powering up?

take the hard drive out and try before buying a new one, you should be able to get into bios without a hard drive. If you can't then it's probably something else.

my gut feeling is it would be your processor. How old is it?

        Hi

The board is a Biostar MCP6P M2+ with an AMD Athlon 7750 dual core processor, I get one beep then nothing , 'out of scan' is now coming up on the screen.

The motherboard , processor was all bought as a bundle probably 12-18 months ago I think.

          Is this the 1

          BIOSTAR :: MCP6P M2+ :: Specification

One long beep followed by two short beeps - Video card not found or video card
          memory bad

High-low siren sound CPU overheated - System will shut down automatically

One Short beep when system boot-up No error found during POST

Long beeps every other second No DRAM detected or install

          Motherboard manual http://www.biostar.com.tw/upload/Man...S_090918_B.zip

Yea that's the one. Just getting one short beep.

Like I said press the start button , the fans start , then the cd drives spin up , then when normally the hard drive would kick in in turns everything off . the beep is about when the cd's start.

And nothing posting on the screen? I gonna have to say ram or GFX card on this. Hav you got others to try to replace? You need to remove all none essential componants, dvd drives, hdds pci cards ect, reset cmos and see if anything posts then.

To do this use the reset jumper (in the manual) or remove cmos battery for 15 mins and try again

I'm getting 'out of scan' on the screen , the graphics is built in and I've got no pci cards in. There's a cd drive , a dvd drive , the floppy and the hard drive. The only other things are external usb ports and an external Hard drive that I've just ( today ) fitted.

I havn't got any extra's ( I'm on the laptop at the moment that's from the dark ages - nothings the same ) so I'll have to pick up some ram and see if that'll do it after trying cmos etc.

                Thanks, Adam

                  Right , update time.

I did the cmos ( swapped the jumper over and back ) disconnected all the cables apart from power and on the back panel. Couldn't get any ram today , the company I use wasn't open.

After turning on the fans started but that was it , the monitor switched back to power saving mode and nothing else happened. Tried it with both of the ram sticks I've got with the same result. I'm starting to wonder if the board itself has gone , any thought's or anything else I can try to find out what's gone ?

                  Thanks , Adam

Looks that way unless you got a spare PCE-E gfx card to try

If the boards gone would the processor be all right to use on a new board?

Long shot If your key board and mouse is connected To PS/2 port disconnect mouse and keyboard and try to switch On PC. I had one in the past that would not boot and it was down to mouse but I also had long bios beeb.

As to your processor you can use it in another motherboard as long as board supports your processor.
