irqL_not_less or equal (blue screen error)

    Hi guys

I have been trying to install Windows 7 on my Dell laptop (which is compaitable). I was using Windows Vista before that.

It installs everything etc. But at the final stages of the installion after the restart i get the 'blue screen of death'

    It gives me this error

    irqL_not_less or equal

Then it wont let me get any further just to finalise the installaion.

Is there anything I can do?

If you're sure you've got no ram problems...

Here's a link to a page covering that fault, usually caused by a memory leak with power manager, the post contains a link to a fix that can be run in safe mode i think ( if you can get into safe mode ? Press F8 a few times before the windows logo pops up )

Microsoft Hotfixes Windows 7 Memory Leak

Another option would be to try and get hold of another 'different release' version of Windows7 that may include more recent service packs and hotfixes than the one you are trying to install ?

I had similiair issue when installing Win 7 - used to blue screen during install .. for me it was my graphics card that was the issue (worked under XP) in the end I replaced graphics card and that allowed me to install Win 7 - you may want to look into this.

          Thanks for the advice guy!

unfortunately when i run in safe mode, it loads up and then an error appears windows can not complete installation process in safe mode, please restart.

(I do believe it is a driver issue, confliction of some sort).

the memory works. Ive tried it on the laptop I am using now.

Try running a chkdsk /r leave it running and completes. See if it'll boot then

tried doing the that in windows repair repair. it didnt do anything.

I think the fault might be with graphics card. is it is difficult to remove the graphics card from a laptop? i have no issues etc opening the laptop.

Depends on the laptop and then sourcing the new 1. I would try a format of the hdd and take it from there

This might sound absurd but is your hard drive exactly divisible by eight?

I had a hell of a time with the irqL_not_less or equal. its a nightmare error because there's so many things it "might" be.

Turned out on one system it was a conflict on the south bridge because when it polled the hard drive the exact amount of bits wasn't divisible by 8. (strangest one to date)
I manually set up a partition whereby the exact bitcount was divisible by 8 and voila shot worked flawlessly.

Ive had others relating to power supplies not pushing enough voltage down the 12v rails. (fairly common with 6 systems so far)

Memory not compatible with a dodgy north bridge (alimajik 1, was a nightmare chipset, took me ages to diagnose this one)

NIC shitting the bed on one system

                    Dodgy soundcard on another.

A few sketchy bios settings like shadow cache and memory hole cause it on some systems.

Weird keyboard related error whereby the repeat rate was incorrectly set in the bios has caused it a couple of times.

Like i said its the worst and most obscure error you can get.

Download hirens. Use the hard drive partitioning and formatting tools. Totally wipe the drive. Kill all partitions. Re partition, low level format. Test the RAM with mem test, once tested try to reinstal windows again
                      see where that leaves you.

also look at using a 'custom' windows install disk where someone has already slip-streamed lots of popular drivers into the release... this is all a bit generall though.. so to be able to help you with your exact problem..what's the exact dell model number for the laptop ? and do you know what graphics chipset it has ?

If this problem is hardware/driver specific, you can bet that someone's already had this problem before.. and fixed it..this is where tech forums come so handy

Most likely Bad Ram Change your Ram Mem Cards, if you have two just take one out and try again, if it does it again swap them just try one at a time
                          Good luck
