    acer aspire x3200

after having recently done a full system restore using the restore disk i got with the computer,
i have now just noticed that the dvd writer does not show up correctly.

it has a pioneer dvd/cd reader/writer and a blu ray player.

but it is now just showing up as a cd player.

i have tried uninstalling it in device manager and searching for driver updates...

anyone have any idea's why it is not showing up correctly?
    any advice appreciated..

ps. it can read dvd's but just shows which files are on the disk, but doesnt play the dvd.....

    dunno what ive done...

it does still sounds like a driver issue mate... go into device manager and find out what the exact model of the drive is and do a search.. sorry if i am teaching you to suck eggs there..

      suck eggs ,

the problem is on device manager it comes up wrong

it has a cd/dvd r/w and bluy ray player, but in device manager it comes as a generic cd rom drive?

interestingly it did let me burn a dvd data disk on it earlier.....

i have tried unistalling, but it keps coming back the same......

install the latest drivers, delete the device and add it back manually pointing it to the device driver location where you saved the files.. or have you tried that already as well

Acer do not have a driver on their website for you're model which would suggest it should be picked up automatically by the operating system.

The do list a problem which can occur when you upgrade the op system or software. CD or DVD drive does not read or write media

yours was not an upgrade so I am not sure if this would apply to you.

You could try asking on the acer support site.

Looks like you can install the drivers only from the disk rather than a full restore. If you are going to try a reinstall

Well I'm glad you got that sorted.. I hope all you're software is compatible with windows 7, you might end up with a few more updates to do
