computer novice

can any body advise a novice please, when i try to open word documents that have been sent me, it goes to windows media ,and i dont know what to do next. my computer runs vista. thanks

I haven't of that before
Always gotta be worth uninstalling office - then reinstalling it, to see if it picks up the ownership of the .doc files correctly.
I assume you have office? if not that could be stopping you reading them

Don't know if this is the same in vista but, you could try right clicking on the file and choose "open with". then "choose program", then select word.
Just a thought.
