PC locks up after a while when online gaming!!!

    Hi all,

This is my first post and thought I'd start of on a issue that's been bugging me for a while.

I've been playing games on my machine for some time and never have a problem. However, when I play games on-line my machine eventually locks up; resulting in me having to do a cold reboot. This is a mystery to me but there are some things I can rule out as the cause. Finally, just wanted to point out that the machine is set to stock values and I'm NOT trying to overclock.

    About my system,

    OS - WIN 7 64 bit
    CPU - Intel I7 - 920 @ 2800
    RAM - 6gig DDR3 @ 1300
    HDD - 4 x 1TBs
    VIDEO - Radeon 5850
    PSU - 850

Any advice and help would be welcome.

could be a number of things that freeze but the frequency
is more likely overheating or driver issue or possibly even psu

sorry for the load of questions.

is your case well vented? cables tidy for good air flow?
All your parts nice and cooled?
with fans or coolers eg ram hdd's?
check hdds there the usuals for overheating

are all the drivers installed from disc's or the driver manfacturers websites.

is your graphic card fan working ok?
    offical ati drivers installed?
have you ever overclocked it? - had to ask.

do you have another psu to try in your system?

      Hi Reapers,

      Thanks for the quick reply.

Firstly, before replying to your questions, I just want to mention that heating is not an issue. I know this as a fact. I have run different applications that monitor heat at the same time as the games locking up. Therefore, nothing raise questions towards the heat being an issue. (and also wanted to state here that the graphics card fan is also working fine)

      In reply to your questions.

The case is very well cooled and has about 7 fans running to keep a nice cool (but noises) temp.

As for the drivers, This has been happening all about 4, possible more than that, different revisions of the official Radeon ATI drivers. Also, the drivers for the rest of my hardware has been periodically updated using nothing but official drivers from the manufactures.

On the system that I'm having the issues the cpu, gfx card, and ram have not been overclocked and is not in the process of being overclocked. The system is (and always has) running at stock settings.

Unfortunately I do not have another psu to try. Additionally the psu was a high priced unit that I bought specifically with a high end system in mind. That being said I appreciate that the psu may have issues and thus another psu may highlight this. however, I am not willing to purchase anything until I know for sure what it might be..... or at least have strong suspicions.

Thanks again for the reply and look forward to some more thoughts or trouble shooting suggestions.

        update your bios

changing your graphics driver is the next step

first try rolling back your driver to the previous driver see if that fixes it sometimes it does.

try somethink that would normally cause to freeze.

        if still not working
        unistall the current driver
        then
        install this driver

        9.12 hotfix
        download from Guru3D.com

also if the noise is a bit too high like you mentioned
you can get anti vibrations kits for such things

        here ill show examples.
for hdd's case feet and wires

there is also dampening kits such as these
