no mouse

i have a pc with xp pro, and it currently only recognizes a standard mouse. however at present i only have a usb mouse , so when i boot up the found new hardware wizard comes up but i cannot select anything because the pointer wont move. i really wanted to use it tonight, do i have to wait until i get another mouse tomorrow or is there some way of doing it

You could always alter the settings until you get the usb mouse installed.

Try clicking on start, control panel, accessibility options, mouse and enable use mouse keys.
