cannot connect to the internet

    cannot connect to the internet

    i have wiped my computer clean with system recovery disc. the computer boots up fine into windows but cant get on the net. i am on virgin broadband which works fine if i plug it into my laptop so i know the broadband connection is ok. on my tower when i click on internet explorer comes up cannot find server. i am operating on xp and any help would be much appreciated

    are you sure your firewall is not blocking the connection, i would also change the browser from ie to firefox or opera.

      Have you installed the network drivers?

      Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manager

      Look for devices with a ? next to them, or a X showing that the device is disabled.

      Enable any disabled devices & install drivers for all showing the question mark.

        if the X is showing on the right hand corner of the screen. Right click on it and click repair. 90% of the time it works!

              i have had problem with my connection recently since replacing my router that virgin media sent me and the only way i would get a connection is to plug out the wireless router for about 10 sec and back. in and i found myself having to do this every time i power down all my pc and all electrical equipment overnight
