Funny, I just took delivery of mines about 10 mins ago. It trounces the iPhone 4 in the spec department - Dual core 1.2ghz processor among other goodies.
If it is inferior to the iPhone in any way, it'll be the apps department. I'll have a play about later and let you know how I find it.
P.s. Contract I got was with TalkMobile. ?250 up front then ?20 pm for 200 mins, 1000 txts and unlimited Internet. -
Sounds good im not paying up front ive seen it for 30 to 35 a month r chat later with you when youve had a play with iy nice 1 thanks.............I know you believe you understand what you think i said

Well, I've spent the night playing with my new toy, and here is my mini-review.Due an upgrade anytime now been looking samsung galaxy s 2 had a good read up on it seems like a good phone just wondering if anyone has one,i no they havent been out long just want to no if there anygood realy is the touch screen anygood no lag heard its dual core 1gh cpu thanks in advance..............
To address your first concern lagerland, the touchscreen is every bit as responsive as the iPhones. Also, keyboards are customisable, so if you're missing your iPhone you can simply download an emulated iPhone keyboard.
The screen itself is quite a bit bigger than the iPhone, and compared to my old 3G, has sharper and more vibrant colours that almost seem to leap out of the screen. The phone itself is actually much thinner and lighter than the iPhone. A technological triumph considering the extra screen size and the formidable set of specs.
I was eager to dive into the app scene on Android, but first impressions were slightly underwhelming. I was spoiled for choice with iPhone. The installous black market app for iPhone had virtually all apps released. Cracking a purchased app was a user friendly process and was completed and uploaded to installous in a matter of clicks. The equivalent Android app, Applanet seems to have a fair amount of hacked apps, but it's a long way from being on par with Installous. I checked a few apps that were in the first page of the official market app, but a search on Applanet yielded no results. A search on google was more successful, and the apps were available from various free file hosting services. Thankfully, installing an app from your computer is not an arduous task at all. You simply install Astral File Browser on your phone, connect the phone as a mass storage device, upload the .apk to your /tmp/ dir, the browse to the new file using Astral. The galaxy also has more options for customisability, whereas the iPhones are restrained in this area.
Pictures and videos take high quality images. However, recording in any of the HD modes consumes space fast!
...I'm falling asleep fast too
. If you have any questions about the phone, just ask.

Most apps are free, Applanet is only for the ones that aren't. Anything you need let me know. You can even make your own if you wish. Most things are open source so you can get involved in development.Well, I've spent the night playing with my new toy, and here is my mini-review.

Once you get your phone rooted it becomes a different beast.
Have fun and as for comparing to an ifail, come on
, look who they asked to produce their screens.

Yes, lager. I meant Astro File Browser. Sorry, I was semi-conscious last night. I'm on pills for sleeping, as many years on night shift has messed me up, so I get a bit incoherent and disjointed late at night

Widgets are cool. There is no apple equivalent. They're little applets that run on your home screens. They can be clocks, RSS feeds, battery monitors, 3G monitors, email etc etc
Battery life is better than my iPhone, but in my opinion, still not so great. An average user will just about make it through the day, but a heavy user would probably need to stick in on the charge in the afternoon. I'm going to consider buying a 3500 mAh battery when they're released for the s2. You have to replace the back cover and it makes the phone a bit bulkier, but if it doubles the battery life I think it will be worth it.
Southern: I was looking at rooting, but wasn't sure what I'd get out of it, as Hacked apps can be installed without rooting. What's the main benefits to rooting?Last edited by MrFug; 11 May, 2011, 22:50.Comment

Rooting is similar to Jailbreaking on the Iphone. It allows you access to areas of the phone normally locked to users.
Once rooted you can install custom firmware/operating system that works faster than the standard release.
There are other benefits, but I'm not that into rooting to be able to explain it all.Canker
