I tried the one from xda and it failed at sd update. Thanks for link I didn't fancy trying just anything without a bit of feedback as I don't fancy turning my phone into a paper weightComment

try the following tutorial if you want to root your phone if you do not want to use super one click.

I've just tried super one click and that fails giving me an error message right at the start. If I ignore this and continue am I likely to brick the phone. That second link is pretty much the same way I tried it the first time with the exeption that the one click file boots into android recovery for you. But the sd file will not update says something about no signature and closes downLast edited by happy_highlander; 4 June, 2011, 20:15.Comment

OK I've found out what the problem is...I am on 2.2.1 build number froyo.xxjpy which I have now found out has 3e recovery not 2e and to my annoyance 3e does not allow you to run unsigned zip files so the only way to root this version is to flash it with odin. I always get the akward ones... Looks like I will have to do more reading before I am confident enough to do it the long way round.
Thanks for the help with the links and I hope my findings will help anyone else having the same problems with this build of froyo.Comment

This should be in the new android forum?mods/admin
What phone is it?,and surely that matters as there are different guides for different phones?,like for instance San francisco gen 1/gen 2 ,and if following wrong info can deffo brick your phone.Comment

I started the thread before I noticed there was a new section...The phone is galaxy s and in this case the problem is with the build version not running unsigned zip files not the model of phone. Thanks for the warningComment
