    Nokia N8 info, please

I am hoping to get some objective views from owners of the Nokia N8--having read a lot of reviews the general consensus does seem to be that, although there have been some improvements to the Symbian O/S it seems to be falling farther and farther behind the Android systems; so, if there are any owners out there could you give me your opinions of this phone. I am torn between the Nokia N8 [ I do use my mobile as a camera replacement so the 12 MP camera with Zeiss lens does appeal] and the competition from the HTC Sensation and Galaxy S2.
    Thanks in advance.

Give her a slap! Bloody Iphone, ha.

The N8 is a bit of a donkey when it comes to the o/s. It's not the most friendly I've seen, & I've used symbian phones recently.

But the camera is second to none in the mobile market. Yes, the Sensation & S2 will beat it hands down on just about everything else. But if it's the camera you really want you've got to suffer for it.

Your best option is to go along to a retail shop & play with all 3 phones. Don't just ask them what's best, as they'll probably sell you what's best for them.
Even try going to a few shops. Orange seem to be putting a 'tech' guy in every shop, but these are people who really know their top end phones. It suprised even me when they could keep up with the questions I was firing at them. And I'm a right anal geek.

Well, thanks to both of you who have replied--I share Canker's pessimism about the iPhone, though, but it does seem that Nokia have really got some catching up to do with regard to Symbian, Anna or whatever, but assuming the rivals whether HTC or Samsung are so far ahead which one has a camera that will take pictures that stand a bit of blowing up, or enlarging, without starting to get too pixelated and wishy-washy??
Sorry to ask fairly dumb questions but I do use whatever mobile I carry around for taking pictures--I did happen to see a couple of photos taken by the Samsung S2 and they did seem better than the ones taken on an HTC--would this be a fair comment?
P.S. Sorry--just noted the link at the bottom of Krazylegz' reply about making your first posts and I am off to do some homework--sorry if I have broken any rules or trod on anyone's toes--oops.

Samsung have always had the edge when it comes to cameras in mobile phones. Until the N8 came along the Pixon 12 had the best overall package.

I have the S2 & I'm more than happy with the photos I've taken. But I've not seen the Sensations photos in real life, only in reviews.

The software in the S2 does make it easy to take good pics. Ok I'm a little biased, but it is a great phone.

            Gidday

I've had the n8 since last october.
I've had nokia cell phones for about 8 years different brands for 10 years before that.
I feel the N8 kinda like a flashy car with a dodgy motor
great ion a sunday cruise but I wouldn't offer to take anyone to the airport just in case.
It does crash about once a week, blank screen , or slow to respond, power down and up again , all good again.
            Camera,
fantastic , I use the closeup with forced flash alot for my work, better than a magnifying glass or mirror.
torch not so good , screen lights up.
video , very good also, alot better video than my 5 meg sony camera.
            xenon flash brilliant.
            fm transmitter
fail, under powered with no remedy.
            gps
slow to get current position from strart up. Characters too small to read but i'm over 40 ! today my gps turned of while the phone was sitting on my dash , had to turn the gps on again and search history to reload my destination.
about 5th time this has happened. Frequent updates of the map is good, better than my garmin nuvi !! I use it rather than my nuvi
            WARNING
Watch out when using the gps and the supplied nokia car charger as the phone overheats to dangerous hot( too hot to hold) so only leave it on for long enough to charge then disconnect. Not using the gps and the car charger is fine.
I had it replaced under warranty ,still the same so not sorted out yet.
            internet
faster than my home computer. Not intuitive to use, I like how I've set it so it'll look for my wlan if no joy it'll connect via cell network.
Skype no video unless a fix is out recently, sucks , why bother !
            Bluetooth
            good.
I pair with my bh505 headphones, brilliant quality.
            music player good
            phone help
            - good.

bottom line, if you like your gadgets simple and intuitive maybe don't get the n8. If you like lots of do all in one device with a surprisingly good camera then maybe it's for you. Otherwise maybe wait for a couple of generations have been out to fix the bugs.
I've had it almost a year and feel i'm about half way to learning how to drive it.

            Regards Don

If the N8 has network software on it you might want to look into flashing it with generic firmware.

Networks have a habit of screwing up phones with bloat ware. Get rid of this & you should find it works a lot better.
