Put the tesco SIM in the phone & go to....

        Menu > Settings > advanced > SIM

        type MEPD

this should show the SIM lock screen. are any of the MEPS active?

Many things are buzzing around my head.

SIM not provisioned:2 - this usually points towards either a blocked handset or a faulty SIM

Does the 3 SIM work in a different phone?

Tesco use O2 for their network coverage, can you put a working O2 SIM in the phone?

Where did you get the phone from?

It's possible the original network had the 3G compatibility removed from the handset. It doesn't happen very often, but it has been done in the past.

Another option is that the data services need activating with 3. But I've never known issues like this to be related to the data.

Personally, my moneys on the phone being blocked. It can take up to 3 months for all the networks to block a handset. If a known working Voda SIM shows 'SIM not provisioned' when in the blackberry, the phone has been blocked.

I just thought... Didn't we have someone with a faulty 3-UK SIM a while ago?

It's worth a try setting the handset for 3G only mode, it should stop it from trying to roam onto O2...

The longest it takes to blacklist a handset here is 24 hours from all networks!

                        9. Enter the MEP2 code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)

                        i. *If you also have a MEP4 code, type 'MEP4' (you will be prompted to enter MEP code)
ii. Enter the MEP4 code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)

You can only enter codes that need to be entered. So if the MEP 4 lock is disabled you won't be able to enter a code.

It is possible the sim needs to be updated or the provisioning checked.

we did one of these on a 9300 the other night originally on orange. used orange sim during the unlocked but somehow it corrupted the sim during unlock. phone is fully restored to factory settings but the sim just crashed. i understand it as the sim didnt like what was happening during the unlock removing the orange lock on the phone and it just corrupted itself. just a simple job of going into orange shop and getting that sim re-issued with serial swap.
the lesson is keep spare sims they dont need to be active, just open to the lock itself
