How to add maps to Garmin West europe for Iphone

So if you want to add some other map other than western Europe (Aroute, USA ...) it is possible.

Of course in order to install the file above your Iphone needs to Jailbroken and you have to have AppSync installed on your Iphone
    First check how to jailbeakme.com.

    So now to add maps:
-You need to download and install IEXPLORER (its free) in order to browse your iphone.
    - Now you need to start iexplorer (with your iphone conected to computer) and browse to folder /Apps/com.garmin.onboard.WesternEurope/garmin-nav.app/storage-western-eu/.System

In the folder .System you will find .IMG files (these are map files)

gmapbmap.img - is the one you can change
gmapprom.img - is the file that contains w. Europe (you can change it also, but no need if you are from Europe)
gmaptz.img - i dont know what is this map for ????

    - Open mapsource and make a .IMG file. I made Adriaroute map, and by default it will be called gmapsupp.img I renamed it to gmapbmap.img,

    - After you renamed it you need to google around for Fast IMG unlocker 2.1 to unlock this map cause it seems the traditional UNL files dont work.

    - When Fast IMG unlocker does what it does simply replace the gmapbmap.img file with the original on the Iphone. (delete the one on iphone and copy the one you created).

I have done this today on my Iphone 4 on OS4.3 and ARoute works perfectly. I didn't test if the other map names would work (gmapsupp and gmapsup2).

You can add different languages also in VOICE folder and TEXT folder.

I don't have time to check how to add custom POI (street cams), so if somebody has time please post here.

Sorry if the "how to" is not so clear, but if you had any "experiences" with Garmin before this will not be a problem.

gmapbmap.img - this is the Garmin Base map. Its always better to leave it. The software will work better with it.
gmaptz.img - this is Garmin Time Zone map. You need it if you want correct arrival time when navigate with the software.
To add more maps symply make new folder in /Apps/com.garmin.onboard.WesternEurope/garmin-nav.app/storage-western-eu/ and name it "Map". In this folder you can add new maps with img extention no matter the name. the maps should be unlocked with "Fast IMG unlocker 2.1" or "Garmin Unlocker Alternative 6.0.5". That's it... Oh and the most important.... You need to change the read/write rules of all files/folders that you touch to 0755 and the owner/group to mobile via iFile or the software that you use for adding maps

        IT WORKS LOOK DOWN!

Unfortunetly the method described above does not work any more cause Garmin is now checking the app online.

        You cant activate this app.

There is another method to install maps using Garmin USA. It is located on a diferent forum and I dont know if I can paste the link.

So I will put it inside the TXT file. Hope this is OK.

            So here is the thing.

You need to install Garmin EU on your JB Iphone, after you do that
            - conect the phone to PC,
            - download and install Iexplorer
            - Start Iexplorer
            - On the left side you will find a list of programs installed
            - Find the one with /Apps/com.garmin.onboard.WesternEurope/garmin-nav.app/storage-western-eu/.System
            - Cut all maps from this folder to your pc and unlock them with Fast IMG unlocker 2.1
            - Paste the unlocked maps to same folder you cut them from
            - Disconect your iphone from PC BUT DONT START GARMIN!
            - Start Cydia on your Iphone and install iFile
            - Start iFile on your iphone and browse to / etc.
            - in etc folder you will find file hosts.
            - Tap on hosts file and choose TEXT VIEWER
            - In the upper left corner tap EDIT
            - On the bottom of the text tap return to make one blank line betwen the text already written and the one you are about to write
            - write this
            127.0.0.1 www.garmin.com
            127.0.0.1 gold.garmin.com
            127.0.0.1 bronze.garmin.com

            - tap SAVE in the uppre right corner and exit iFile
            - make sure you have internet acces (wifi in my case)
            - start Garmin and it should run, worked for me.

                    Dear Kris

All maps must be unlocked, and usualy when this error happens its a low memory issue, in order for garmin to work properly it needs about 100-150MB of free space - mabye even more.

If this doesnt work for you than i dont know what is the issue.

Its a long shot, but try to reset the trip counter. I had this problem on garmin XT and I did the trip reset and all the stuff in this option like max speed, kilometers and i dont know what else.

Anyway, tap on VIEW MAP, then on the bottom of the screen SPEED, then you can see the arrow in the upper right corner, tap on this arrow and reset speed and trip.

This happens if you want to combine 2 or more maps (for example Europe+AR).
It seems it can only work with 1 map, so the best way is to make one map or rename maps with ifile depending on the location you are using Garmin, so that you always have only 1 map running.
I know its kinda but its the only way to avid the error mentioned above.
