    new phone

My contract is at the end with t-mobile, and I want to upgrade.
I have been offered a HTC one X for ?100 upfront cost, plus stay on my old ?16 a month (300min,300txts,data,landlines) contract.
    Does this sound ok?
Was really after the Galaxy S3, but they aren't playing ball with that one.
I am only at the indian call centre stage at the minute, might try the cancellation method, but don't want to lose the HTC... What do you reckon?

Oh, I would prefer it unlocked, but am hoping the unlock sites would work? Cellunlocker.net - #1 Unlock Codes for Network Cell Phone Unlocking or similar?

        Forget about going through T-Mobile.

Go to any of the independent retailers (Phones 4U, Fonehouse, Carfone Whorehouse, etc) and see what they can offer you.

The offer you have been given does sound good. But it will be locked & loaded with T-Mobiles bloatware.

Not sure about that unlocking site. But most codes take at least 2 months to show on databases with new model releases.
Ebay might be a better option, at least you will have some comeback on them if needed.

You might get a deal on a S2 as they will be trying to clear stock. Apart from the fluffy stuff its as good as the S3!

Lol yeah not heard good things about the battery life on One X. Then again I have a S2 & would say battery life is rubbish, barely lasts the day but then it depends on what you use it for, battery life on most smartphones is pretty poor tbh. I would tell them your leaving unless you get the S3 don't understand why they can't do the deal on S3 as price is not much different. Battery cannot be removed on One X so no option of carrying a spare or buying a heftier one down the line, neither does it have a micro sd slot. My advice would be to have a look online at deals from Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4 U etc as they offer some online exclusive deals, you could always give them a call & try to push them down on price, depends how good you are at negotiating. Either way they're both really good phone's.

My S2 gives me 3 to 4 days at least!

The trick is to not have Facebook, Twitter and email all churning data at the same time.

I have email running and nothing else that's data hungy, if I want Social Networks then I log on using the phones browser. We pay a heavy price for data here so, it also saves money!

Wow, well I'd be in 7th heaven if mine lasted that long , I also use the browser for Social Networking & only have e-mail running. I go on the browser a few times a day, play some games & listen music, send a few texts. Fresh charge in the morning & by the end of the day battery's low. I also have screen brightness very low. It may also depend on how many apps you have installed, I have a lot. My dad also had a S2 & his battery life is similar to yours but then he doesn't do much on it apart from call & text. You don't have the 2000mah battery do you?

Yeah my thoughts exactly when the S3 was revealed, not much change from the S2, better processor & screen are the main things, other than that it's just minor software additions half of which are gimmicks, in the real world no one is going to notice a difference in speed as there's not many apps at all which can make full use of the quad core processor. Wasn't impressed at all when S3 spec was released, after all the hype was expecting something much better.

I charged my S2 on Sunday afternoon and only charged it again last night and even then it was still on 30% available!

All of the Galaxy S2's sold here come with the 2000mAh battery as standard.

The 2000mAh is only 350mAh more than the smaller battery so it shouldn't give that much extra!

What I did do a while ago was completely reset the phone. I'll give the code at the end BUT remember that unless you have your data backed up, you'll lose everything as it goes to 'out of the box' really Factory Reset! Before I reset the phone I was getting around a day and a half at best!

I'm convinced so many applications are doing things that they shouldn't and are forever checking for updates etc. Also in fairness, my 3G tower I can literally see the light on the top of the mast at night, so I do have a good signal...

The GPS only gets turned on by things like Google Maps etc. I have only push email running that consumes data without my say-so!

I have resisted downloading any apps that are not from a known source, i.e. like the BBC News app. A LOT of free apps are advert supported and they are constantly downloading junk!

Having read the warning, the reset code is *2767*3855# but again don't just type it in as soon as you type the # your phone will reset!

You will see more games released that will need the extra processing power. Most other apps won't need more than basic processing power.

My S2 will last 2 days if I let it. But I do charge every night.

Running ICS which is better for battery life. I also turned off the Google+ app.

I don't use any social networking crap. But I have push email running for my 2nd email address. Usually I'll clock up over an hour of calls per day & send between 3 & 20 texts per day.

Playing games or watching videos will kill battery life. You have a monitor built in to Android that will allow you to check what hardware/apps are using the most battery power.

GB - Menu > About phone > Battery (I think, not sure if there should be settings in there somewhere)

                        ICS - Menu > Settings > Battery

My screen is always top of the list. Unless I play Worms.

I did actually do a reset about a week ago, didn't help the battery life. In the UK the S2's come with 1650mah batteries. Samsung released a 2000mah battery later as many people complained about the battery life however beacuse the battery is about 1mm thicker it comes with a different battery cover. As a result many phone cases such as the one I have won't fit on the phone with the new battery & cover as they were designed for the original battery. Shame Samsung didn't just sell the phone with the 2000mah battery. They went for Thinnest Phone In The World award rather than practicality and usability for the end user.

I've not seen any case changes on the S2. Most of my family now have the S2 & all look the same as mine.

Are you sure the bigger battery cover isn't a chinese after market release?

It makes a big difference in battery life between network released phones & standard SIM free phones.
Network released phones have bloatware & tweaks to the original release o/s. These are not battery friendly.

I have 15 hours 14 mins on my battery with 85% remaining.

The screen has taken 29% of the power used.

If that rate continues I'll have close to 60 hours on one charge. Hardly the sign of a poor performing 3G smart phone.
