    Samsung g600 repair questions

    Hi.
In the Samsung G600 there is a large ribbon cable that connects two circuit boards but in the middle of this cable there is a 'double sided' 'contact patch' which "sticks" down onto the slider plate. This seems an odd arrangement to me because if the contact patch is an electrical contact it suggests to me that the 'glue' (which I think is a double sided sticky tape ( black in colour) ) is not an insulator i.e. either conductive or resistive.
Does anyone know if this is likely and if so where in the UK I can get such tape.
Like wise the contacts for the phone's side buttons are also stuck down but by an opaque tape, does anyone know if plain double sided tape can be used for the latter?
Finally, over some of the circuit boards' ribbon cable sockets etc there is/are green tape, does anyone know if this is insulating tape albeit rather thin insulating tape?
    Thanks.
    Sean

The gold coloured part of the flex cable which is stuck down is not a connector, it simply there to reinforce the cable. Any thin double sided tape can be used. This is a similar arrangement to the Samsung J700 and L760 and is done simply to reduce stress on the longer cable. At a push a tiny spot of Bostick on both surfaces (allow to dry) will do the trick.

The classic Samsung green tape can be replaced by any tape and at a push even packing tape can be used! I found a good source for this tape, the orange tape Canon and HP use to ship their printer... Just cut to size and its as good as the original.

      Excellent, thank you Jim.

Perhaps you could help with one other question. In the G600 there is a tiny battery on one of the two circuit boards, do you, or anyone else, know what happens if this battery is removed for some time?

As an aside, I stripped the phone because of a 'speaker' problem and I bought several g600s on ebay to cannabalise for parts just in case. It is surprising the amount of stuff leave on their phones.

The battery is simply for the clock function. If you removed it, then you'd simply have to set time and date each time that you remove the battery. Most of the entry level Nokia's don't have this fitted at all...
