When you say wont work, does the modem accept the new SIM or do you get a signal but are unable to connect??

Remember that each network needs it's own connection profile!

A quick look at the Orange UK website shows the APN needed is: orangeinternet

Usually you just need to setup a new Profile in Mobile Partner.

For Orange these will (probably) be:

Name & Password: Both are blank
APN is: orangeinternet
APN Setting: Static
Dial string: *99#
