You need to look to spend around ?500 - ?1500 initially dependant if you already have a PC/Laptop! Also Windows XP is the de facto operating system to use, many tools do not support even Vista let alone Windows 7...

Have a look here: Fonefunshop Ltd*::*Unlocking Solutions*::*Unlocking Tools

You'll also need to get some short sharp knowledge as simple mistakes can turn a ?1000 handset into a "high-tech" door stop at the click of a button! Find some GSM forums before you embark on the project!!

There is plenty of free software to unlock cellphones but only older stuff like Nokia 3310 and Samsung D500...

There is plenty of free stuff around that will quite happily kill newer phones! Unlike years ago, phones that are killed (bricked is the latest term) recovery is between difficult or impossible!!!

Sorry, from your first post I thought that you were serious about unlocking... Your best route is to open an account at one of the IMEI to unlock code service which will give you codes for 80% of handsets. This is not free of course but if you are a regular user you should get decent prices!

You can use software like DUltimate phone unlocker. But you will have to buy credits & the supported models are few in number.

Something like NSPro might be a choice if looking for Samsung unlocking. Not over priced & most phones can be unlocked with only 3 cables. Easy GUI, but not always accurate with instructions. Some of the latest handsets are not covered or you need to flash the phones before it will read the codes.
There are better boxes than NSPro, but you really need some experience to be able to use them.

The Microbox carries a variety of phones, but it usually means activating at a cost for something you might not use very often. There's also SeTool for Sony Ericsson handsets...but that will really bugger your brain up. That's one steep learning curve.

The password it is asking for won't be for unlocking the SIM restrictions. It's a privacy password to protect the phone from misuse.

                      Try *2767*3855#

Not sure if it will work as the * & # keys are usually disabled for password entry.

If this doesn't work samfirmware.com have the flash files & PNX loader to wipe the phone. But there are no tutorials so a bit of google searching will be needed.

But very little works with windows 7.

Never used fonefunshop for support, just buy some boxes & stock from them occasionally. They are cheap for some of the boxes.
