    nokia n97

hi all lets see what you can do with this ........

9 months ago i picked up a Nokia N97 secondhand from a phone shop in canterbury . was working great till about 3 weeks ago.
turn phone on and all ok but no signal. tried lots of different things including changing the sim cards (different providers) all to no avail .
contacted O2 who run some checks and told me it had been shut down (reported stolen) .
when i asked the shop what was going on the guy said as it was over 3 months nothing he could do.
contacted O2 again to try to get the phone back on but was informed that the person who had it on contract originaly had made a clam saying the phone was stolen and they will not reconect it , but to take it to the police . if i do that i will lose all my money .
does any one know how to get this phone working again and how much it will cost ..........
    thanks

Unless you know someone who works in an O2 call centre & has access to their blacklisting system there's no way to recover it.

You can sell it over seas if it's unlocked as once outside the UK it will work.

I would be tempted to go back to where you bought it and make it quite that either a replacement or refund is in order or your next stop will be the Police, unless he has proof that he bought it from its original owner legitimately then they have sold you stolen goods!

Here (in South Africa) by law I have to get the original seller to sign a form that states that there is no legal reason for them not to sell the phone to me. This protects me and the new buyer... I don't know if this is common practice in the UK, I used to do it when I had my business there...

It's not possible to change the IMEI on a N97 and even if you could, it's a criminal offence!

In Windows look at your connection in "Network Connections" and go to properties and then set for maximum speed!

In some countries it is not illegal.
In the UK you can also make changing IMEI, but it is cell underground.
            Try it

What part of "It's not possible to change the IMEI on a N97" isn't clear??

In the UK you'll be in line for a 5 year jail term if caught...

Even if you could the IMEI on a N97, then you can only change it to one that is already in use or invent one! If it's one already in use it will be picked up by the networks (two phones using the same IMEI) and if you invent one it can also be instantly picked up by the networks!!

Please, if you are going to give advice please ensure that it is not going to make the recipient likely to criminal charges!!
