Please remember that tampering any mobile handsets IMEI (in almost any country) is illegal and in many places carries a prison sentence!

Many networks now run tests for duplicate IMEI's and illegal IMEI's (i.e. ones not released to mobile manufactures) used on the network.

Mobile handsets can (without your knowledge) give operators a lot of information. So using the IMEI of an old Nokia 5110 would look a bit odd if you were found surfing the web using a device with that IMEI.

dont quote me but i think your silicon chip is now as much use as a bag of sand being sprinkled on your chips

as the above person said its totally illeigal as criminals change imei,s too disguise stolen phones and it carries a jail sentance too deter people

The IMEI may be able to be re-built. The law only looks at changing an IMEI, you can repair the original IMEI legally.

But I'm not sure on which box will support the function.

No tools currently support the i9000 as it's Android.

Unlocking is possible via a roundabout route, but no IMEI change!

Go to carphone warehouse with proof that you own it.
I think they will charge you 20 pounds for it.
They will put imei back to what it should be.
Just say you were upgrading firmware & pc cocked up.

                But phone must be legit
