Most people have them for the houses

The pubs use offical subscription cards, and they can be very expensive. A lot of private individuals use other not technically legal methods to receive all the foreign TV packages.

First you need a dish pointing at the satellites broadcasting the foreign channels. A motorised dish makes the most from satellite, but if you're new to this, it can be a real pain to setup. A dish with multiple LNBs (the things on the end of the satellite arm) is another option. You can have upto 16 LNBs on the one dish, using a Wave Frontier Torodial dish, but this is very expensive. It's more feasible to limit your LNBs to 4, connect them to a Diseqc switch and receive channels from 4 satellites using one receiver. I personally like 0.8w, 13e, 19.2e and 28.2e and that gets me plenty.

If you take the plunge a buy the equipment, make another post and I'm sure people will help you set it up.

As far as getting subscription TV channels without actually having a subscription, you need to google 'card sharing'. We're not allowed to talk about it on the forum.

Hope this helps. (seems like i answer this question every day :P)

An 80cm will do you fine, and you can get one on eBay for about ?25. If you want a little bigger and better quality, a Triax TD88 90cm dish will set you back about ?50 inc delivery. The best LNB on the Market (IMO) is the Inverto Black Ultra. They're ?10.50 each on fleabay. Then you need a multi-lnb arm for your dish - the 4 lnb Triax ones are about ?12 and the 3 lnb all-dish models are about ?8. You'll also need a diseqc switch at about ?5-?7. Finally, 30 metres of quality WF100 cable is about ?17.

OR if you want to go motorised you can get a complete motorised dish pack (dish is the great Triax TD110 1.1m) including dish, 0.1db LNB, metal gear motor, wall bracket all for ?135. Then you'll need a receiver...

A dreambox 500s will cost around ?40-?50. Good value if your only after standard definition. For HD, a dreambox 800 is about ?150. You can also get HD spiderbox, VU+ or Technomate receivers. Whatever receiver you get, you should make sure it has a Linux os.

Standard def you can get the whole setup for close to ?200 if you install it yourself. Personally, you can't beat the footy in HD.

Have to say, once you watch the footy in HD, it's hard to go back to SD.

I have a dreambox 800 HD, best money I have spent.

Without going to much into it, you can buy a sealion (!). I currently get Viasat, nova, Tring, Sly germ and it, plus many others.

If you google LJ'S football, you can see what foreign broadcasters show the footy sly dont. Not missed a man u match in 5 years. Every single one.

so if i get a dm500 and motorised dish, the ?135 package, then what do i need to pay to get the footy games at 3pm? is there a monthly fee as such

There are no completely free ways to get what you're after I'm afraid. I cant say too much, but when it comes to cardsharing, you have 2 options: buy a valid subscription to a TV package and share it with other people, who in return will share their TV package with you. Even cheap packages are desirable, like Setanta Ireland for 9.99 a month, or MTV which is even cheaper. Or option 2, pay for a commercial card server. Finding a good one isn't easy. There are sites out there that aim to make this job easier, but I cant name them. A bad payserver is a greedy payserver. They take on too many clients and overload their servers, resulting in frequent glitching and unwatchable TV. A decent server with a full European list will cost your around 20-30 euro per month.

Cardsharing is a hobby for most of us. It's not cost-free and it's not simple. I don't even watch that much TV, I just enjoy pulling in channels from all over Europe.

Admins: if I've said to much, I apologise. Feel free to remove the post in that case.

As said more than likely cardsharing whether via the true way of sharing or via a payserver. And also as said above we do not allow CS talk to a technical level here especially those relating to payservers.

Google with keywords such as cardsharing, CCcam, etc and you will find all you need. It is quite easy to set up with a bit of reading and try keep it between friends and family if sharing
