Which Dish & Setup to Buy?

    Hi everybody

I'm new to satellite and I'm looking to get some information.

I'm not sure what the best dishes and setup boxes are and how it all works. Also need a bit of help with dish sizes and prices etc.

If there's a newbie guide on starting from scratch then it would be helpful.

    Thanks

any decent brands or company names would help. also what's the best size to get since you can get them in various sizes?

this dealer is charging a renewal fee of ?100 at the end of each year (after installation). does it really involve an annual fee or is it some sort of a rip off?

if you know nothing about sat set ups etc then i would say
a bit of research and if you just want to get as many channel open as possible without a lot of setting up you need a gift type
sat receiver like the protek these are more or less plug and play
also google for satellite dealers websites for the best price for a
motorised dish set up with the box then the fitter will set the box up when they install the dish etc: i'm sure the guys who use these boxes will give you more info on them as to what they open and which is the best model etc

Sounds like a preconfigured satbox,i would stay well away from that because 90% of the time the quality of the connection is bad(overloaded server) so a lot of glitching and freezing channels. The technomate 5402 hd is a good option at the moment and you don't have to have a lot of i.t. skills to set it up.I don't know a lot about motorrised dishes but i'm sure there is a lot of members around to tell you about that.

i had a 1.2 meter motorised dish and don't bother getting one... its a real pain... setting up is easy but every time it rains and when ever there's a sudden gust of wind it moves out of position... its great if you have a garden so you can easily access it. I put mine on the roof (bad idea).

I removed the motor and fixed the dish onto one satellite.
My best advice to you is use fixed dishes for peace of mind... besides the 1.2m dish, i currently have a 90 cm facing hotbird and a pre-installed sly dish (neighbours one, its got 8 diseq outs ) and soon to add another 90 cm dish for the french channels on astra 19.2 east... so my roof will be packed, but wont lose signal due to heavy rain.

The bigger dishes have narrower focus so even the slightest knock will put them out of alignment. I found this with a 1.1m triax i installed recently, but since it's been up there haven't been any problems. I suppose having a dish on the roof would expose it to higher wind loads which would make things more difficult.

Blizzard442: Why not just add another LNB to your hotbird dish? OR even a 6-degree monoblock would get you hotbird and astra 19.2 without the need for a external diseqc switch.

I have a 90 cm triax dish with a multi bracket recieving astra 1+2+1a3d+hotbird 13 east with four quad smart lnb working perfect so no need for loads of dishes on the house.with one tm7100 triple tuner and one tm 6902 and one sky box connected so lots of choice for people to watch in the house.
So there is lots of choice depending on your budget too.
