    Receiver or LMB ?

Hello all, I installed a Labgear dish and receiver and with my Satfinder from Maplins all was excellent. That was in November. THEN the leaves came, branches got heavy and no more line of sight ! Anyway I thought I would resite and re-align but setting up the Satfinder and turning on the receiver the Satfinder illuminates and then goes off. Tried my mates and it does the same thing momentarily lights then goes off. ?
Would really appreciate a comment or two on this, thankyou.
By the way, nice to "meet" you all.

Tried your mates box or satfinder?
Sounds like a power issue, check connections and output settings.

All connections are good and sorry for my ignorance but I do not understand output settings. It was my mates Satfinder by the way. My appologies again for being a bit "thick"

make sure the +/- wires are not touching at the f-connector as this a short. check the lnb settings also, regards mdt

Well good news and bad news.first the good news I remade all the connections and it was the short connector lead with crimped ends that I bought with the Satfinder !
Now the bad news...........I can now receive Astra 1 & 2 and Hotbird but no English channels ? Will try again tomorrow. All this is a bit heavy for a sixty year old pump fitter so your help is really appreciated, thankyou for your replies and keep them coming as we are nearly there.

              hello mate,
the astra 1s are at 19.2 East, hotbirds are at 13 East and the astra 2s are at 28.2East(the english channels are on here that are aimed at the UK) if you have a fixed dish with just one lnb on it you will only be able to to receive one satellite at a time and it sounds like its the 28.2/5 satellites you want.cheap satfinders can be useful to peak a signal but will not tell you what satellite you are pointing to.If you can get a portable tv and your set top box near the dish use them to set up and dont bother with the meter.just tune into a known channel on the stb.but as you have set it up once ok you should be alright.

Go to dishpointer.com, enter your postcode, set sat to 28.2, move marker to dish location (green marker, move to roughly where you have dish installed.) Align dish accordingly, use sight markers eg chimney. You will find rough elevation results also.
When roughly aligned use the signal meter on the box/receiver to improve signal, a friend will be useful here "left a bit, right a bit, almost" etc etc. Meters can be fiddly things to use unless tweaked.

You can you lyngsat LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite to find the satellite and see which chanels you are interested in. You can also adjust your freq and FEC to match the chanel you want.

                    OK what now ?

Getting close to giving up now ! ...............
When I select "satellite List" it shows
                    Astra 2 Eurobird 1 E 28.2
                    Hotbird E 13.0
                    Astra 1 E 19.2
                    Eurobird 1 E 28.5
Lots and lots of channels BUT no English.(except World News)
Been looking at DISHPOINTER and because of the beautifull trees the other line of sight satellites that are available to me are between 50 and 60 E.
Intelsat, Meteosat, Insat, Express, Skynet, Sirius, Galaxy 26 & 27 but, please excuse my ignorance, I cannot find anywhere that tells me if these give English Channels. Could someone offer a bit of advice please or I will have to do a foriegn language course or two. OR wait until Autumn.
                    Thanks again
