Best HD box for recording - will be using Sly card

    Hi there,

I have a full cost a fortune package from Sly and love the HD...but hate the fact you have to start deleting stuff...like to record cycling events that take up loads of space.

Was going to go the PC recording method until I came across the HD sat boxes ( used to have a D2 box for years ).

So...I want a box for just recording ( then to PC ) and will be using my Sly card...so no c/s as yet and not to fussed about twin tuners etc.
Was just about to plum for an Openbox but seems to be lots of stories about out of sync HD !

What is the best option that is not VU+ duo price ?

Openbox - are they fine for my purpose or just two many quality issues..sync etc..do they playback MKVs ?

Blademedia 7000 - better quality - MKV playback and 7-day EPG but higher price ?

    Dreambox 800pro - as BM7000

    Any other options....?

Like I say just want mainly to record.

As a p.s...do any of these ( are there any ) that will stream the output from the box to my PC wirelessly or n/w cabled ?

    many thanks

The dreambox 800 Pro i think if setup right streams to your PC, I had a normal dreambox 800 and used to be able to watch for example, sky sports 1 on tv and stream sky sports news to my PC, with a Image, I forget what image now, was a good box though, I'd highly recommend it, even a clone !

    Regards.

Don't forget when you buy your receiver, your also going to need a hard disk drive to put in it. The likes of the dm800 use 2.5" 'laptop' HDDs. A 1tb will set you back close to ?100. I haven't checked the prices but I'm basing that on the fact I paid ?70 for a 750gb HDD for my PS3.

Got to say I LOVE my openbox.

True, audio does sometimes go out of sync, but hardly a problem - and it seems only if you stay on the same channel for a few days so normally not an issue.

EPG is sh*te though - only now & next.....

        HTH

        CG

PS - never tried to play "external" recordings such as mkv so not sure on that one...

Yeah, you could do that if all your interested in is extra storage capacity. Just be aware that with your sky box you're limited to one satellite and you need a legitimate subscription.
