you will need to flash your box when you first get it unless its pre-flashed for you but after that the sw updates are automatic and just require a couple of button presses to update. ive installed over 30 of these boxes (and clones) over the last 3 or so years and every single one is still working as far as i know and the team behind them are very good at what they do with frequent updates as and when they are needed. regards mdt

Hi mdt, thanks for that post. May I ask how will I know if the box is pre flashed? Also do you know where I could find a guide on how to flash this box?

most dealers wont flash a stb before selling it as it can cause legal problems although its usually the small time e***ers who do this. you will know if the box is flashed as it will clear the packages when you connect it to your router/lan cable. the latest software can be found here on dk and flashing the box is like any other that uses a null-modem cable by using a uploader to load the .bin file. regards mdt

Hi, I am thinking of getting the Protek 9600IP Box and I have two questions.

1. Do I just connect the box to the aerial and my router without installing anything?

2. Will I get the sports channels like Al Jazeera Sports & Sky Germany without having to install anything on the box?

So basically will I get these channels just by switching on my box and doing software updates through the box?

Any help is very much appreciated.

...and refering to your 1st Q, You will need to connect to a satellite dish & NOT a standard TV aerial.
A standard Sky dish will do for UK FTA channels or a larger motorised dish for even more european sats/channels.

Ive got a fixed TV Cabo dish which is a Portuguese satellite dish, will this do for getting HotBird? I in particularly want Al Jazeera Sports and Sky Germany.

if the dish is 60cm or more, realign the dish it should be fine for hotbird. regards mdt
