Openbox s10 @ ?80, full HD and record facility via usb drive, nowhere near a sky box but a decent bit of kit at the price.

gotta agree with owen, for closeness to sky hd and price..the qbox looks the best bet..never had one..but LOOKS fairly easy to set up and apparently the latest firmware has sorted any niggling probs it used to have
              Fave replies from various threads

1: What the fff is all that about??? All that crap below your reply I mean, get a life mate
2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

Would agree with most every reply above, if you are after twin tuner and can afford it then the VU+ DUO or the Clarke-Tech / Xtrend ET9000 are the ones to go for but if you are on a budget then the Duolabs QBox HD Mini is the one to go for, also they are not nearly as hard to setup as you would think, with the latest firmware we supply them with they are ready for you to plug in and start setting up straight away and you can download the very latest channels lists direct from the addons server for either 28.2 or fully motorised, CrossEPG is ready for you to use (and works great) and you can literally have one up and running within minutes of plugging it in and at the ?199 for a twin tuner Enigma2 based receiver there really is nothing close price wise.... The only other thing worth a mention is the fact you'll need to use an external USB drive for PVR functions on a Mini, there is no option for internal HDD, an external USB drive actually works great though, no worry in that respect but worth mentioning as some will not want to have an external drive.

the thing about recording sky is you dont need to
                  why
cuz they repeat every thing about 100 times
                  so you cant miss anything

do any of these boxes have series link etc?

i've got a technomate 6900 super and a dreambox clone, both record but neither are remotely comparable to my sky+ box (in terms of ease-of-use, epg, record, series link).

i want to scrap it my sky box though, like the OP I guess, and move to a non-sub option. i'm considering the foxsat hdr as it is wife-friendly but would prefer something that wasn't freesat really.

i will be using it on a dish pointing at astra 2d for now but have just moved and will be setting up a my motorised dish soon and would love a great pvr , 2 or 3 tuners, with an epg, with series link, that is wife-friendly - any of the boxes mentioned meet my requirements?

                    thanks

Unfortunately there is nothing really "cheap" and does as you ask.

Believe it or not but Sky have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds to make their boxes what they are and you pay for that luxury.
