Attach dish to a telegraph pole?

    Hi,

I am looking at getting a dmotorised dish plus vu+. I have atelegraph pole in my garden which is backed by conifers so I havea clear view south and a nice windbreak. I havent calculated how high up the pole I'd need to get a clear view yet but is it a good ide to try to attache my dish to this and has anyone ever tried this before?

Cant wait to get started on this project!

Do you charge them rent for the pole?

I remember reading somewhere that any pole in your garden that dosent service your house is elegible for rent to the householder that it is placed in.

Hi danped,I haven't come across any brackets yet that would suit your telegraph pole idea and if you wish to continue along that path you will need to come up with your own ideas.
You can, of course, cement a scaffolding type pole into the ground ensuring that it is absolutely plum for a motorized set up to function properly.
The larger the dish the more satellites you can pick up, so I would suggest that 80cm minimum or go for a 1mtr.
There's plenty of people on here to help as well as reading any information available.
Best of luck and remember there's great satisfaction to be gained if you do it for yourself.

Put it up on telegraph pole if they say anything tell them to take it out of your garden, sure you wont hear anymore.

You cannot tell BT or any Electricity supplier to remove any of their equipment from your land ( assuming its your house or is it a council / landlord owned property ? )
When its first installed the logistical side it always considered, and any payment ( wayleave payment ) is arranged before the installation begins...You will find that it may even be on the property Deeds...

                    E.ON - What is a wayleave?

Thanks for the comments guys, I've decided to go for the "vanilla" installation on the side of the house. 1m dish, vu duo. Deffo agree the most satisfaction comes from DIY. Telegraph pole would have been a nice location tucked away at the bottom of the garden but I'd also have to do a bit of tree felling that way!
