NOOBIE ALERT!!!!: Questions on Box Selection!!

    Hi All,

    Greetings from the Emerald Isle!

Ok so I need your guys help with this. I've been reading and googling re the whole cs scene for the past week or so and I have to say its quite daunting. Dreambox, Spiderbox, Openbox, VU+ DUO, AZBOX etc etc the list goes, from Ferarri's to CLINE's to SLINE's to bouquets, clones and originals...... I have to say I'm am absolutely confused.com as to where to start with this whole game!

I'm relatively speaking technically capable so i'm looking for something to get me started and learn all this stuff.
    What i'd see as desirable:

    1. HD Receiver
    2. A box that has a good level of support from the wider community.
    3. Reliability - minimal glitching is a must!
    4. PVR support would be nice (not essential)
    5. Something that will last me a few year before upgrade

    Re Sellers:
Can anyone recommend a good seller that provides the lastest and greatest and also give good aftersales and support if required?

Any help with the above would be great. This forum is fantastic i have to say!

    Thanks

Hi Mate , welcome to the forum btw , this question pops up a lot and depending what you want determines the answer , if your an ex-cable user and happy with now+next epg then openbox is a fine budget model (see here for our openbox forum Openbox ).

If you wanna do a bit of reading and like customising then dreambox is the daddy although you will need to put the effort in and its a long steep learning curve ! Sat Dreambox
if you go dreambox then dm800 clone is HD , with a slot for a 2.5"sata drive for pvr , can be picked up for ?120 - ?190 depending were you buy
if you go openbox then both models s10 + s9 support pvr via externall usb port , and both do HD on a budget
    ?80 ish

    regards sp

      Hey Southpaw,

      Thanks for that.

I've read a good bit about the DM800's clones alright and there seems to be a few different varietys out their alright with varying quality. Its hard to pick!

Who would you recommend as the best supplier for a clone? ....bearing in mind reliability and support!
Also what sim would you go for. Are the ferrari's the best? And for example some clone seem to have the 400mips processer and some have a 300! And also some have a DVI port on the back and others have a HDMI. Not too big of a deal but a lot of diff's for essentially the same box.

I was thinking of going for a DM500 HD. The specs seems superior, only a little dearer and some report its more reliable but on the other hand it seems to be far less popular than the DM800 and as a result seems to have less support. So from all that i suppose my question would:

      1. Given a choice between the DM500HD and 800 HD what would you go?
      2. Who would you buy it off?
      3. What sim would you use?

Thanks again guys. This forum is fantastic

If you are going for a dm800 clone make sure you get the one with the M tuner and are easy to setup, if you can afford a vu plus i would go for the vu really good box.

Bit confused about regarding the below.

          DM800HD (PRO)
          DM800HD (PRO) SAT RECEIVER (M) BSBE2-801A WITH SSL82 BOOTLOADER - ukdreamshop

          DM800SE EDITIONDM800SE EDITION SIM 2.10 COLOUR OLED SCREEN BL82 - ukdreamshop

Is the SE an updated version?? On the back it looks more like a DM500HD!

          Thanks,

Personally I would avoid the se box as they are pretty new to market so could well be buggy like the earlier 800 clones. Dm800 pro is the most stable clone 800 released. Some say it out performs the original. Very solid and glitch free with a decent c.s source
