Hi there could anyone help here ive just been told i need a new motor for my sat as its not following the arc. The motor itself can be moved using some device connected to the reciever and using a spectrum analyser to see and get it on to whatever sat, but soon as its sent to another sat it using the remote it loses itself again. Ive been told by that sat engineer that the usals are away in the motor and won,t work. I have no reason not to trust his advice. He has always seemed honest to me but im just looking to see if anyone knew of anything that i could try before i have to shell out for a new motor and fitting. I did say about linning up on 1 west and doing a manual go to x but he assured me this would not work and the motor is f--ked. All replys greatly appreciated thanks. Ps how long does a motor normally last? mines 2 years old

I"ve had a tm 2100a for over 4yrs and it still works fine.thats not to say they cant go wrong. you can always try a hardware re-set.Drive the motor to 0 via the manual button(make sure its on 0 as accurately as possible as wherever the motor is when you reset will be the motors 0 position) then probe the reset button with a thin rod and hold in for a couple of seconds, this should reset it to as leaving the factory you should then cut the power to the motor(turn the stb off at the mains for a short while)before setting up again.Last edited by dick b; 30 June, 2011, 11:59. -
I never use usals, just dont like it.
Set the motor up manually, if the pole or bracket hasnt been touched then you dont need to manually go up and touch it.
I always hear people say that you need to set it up with 1w and you dont.
As long as you have everything done correctly you can pick any point in the arc you want.
I always pick 28.2 then manually move motor and store pos.
If that doesnt work then maybe the teeth have wore down and this could cause problems.Comment

Thanks dick b and rodbouy. So if im reading yous right i can change the sats manually? Do yous mean climb a ladder and move the dish or can i do this some way with the reciever of mine which is a technomate 5300. The sat engineer moved the dish on the motor from some device connected to the box (or a least thats how it looked to me) so the motor is working and i presume the teeth are ok as its moving. Its just when i use the remote to go to another sat it gets lost along the way somehow, even last night outside i could see the green power light on so its recieving power ok. So if its possible to move the motor manually from the reciever could one of yous or some kind digital kaos member give me a step by step guide on how to do this many thanks.Comment

I should have seen that in your profile
I have never used one of them before, but there should be a motor settings and just change it from using usals to manual. Then you can just move to a selected sat, sav pos then pick another sat and move motor, save pos all by remote.Comment

I bought 2 Dreambox 800s hd one for me and a mate both with motorised set ups.
My box worked fine and moved my dish ok but for some reason his box wouldnt move the dish yet when i tried his box on my set up it was ok and my box and his dish is now ok so its possibly the box not giving the motor enough power so if you get chance try another receiver.
Hence i now have my mates dm and i have his

Did you try swapping power supplies 1st?I bought 2 Dreambox 800s hd one for me and a mate both with motorised set ups.

Did that, the odd time his box was fine and his dish would move but when he wanted to move from sat to sat it would get stuck.
Soon as i put my box on it was fine and that was with same psu. Ended up swapping boxes in the end.
Whether it was a fault at his end with the motor i dont know, maybe not enough power being drawn from the box but swapping receivers cured the problem.
Edit- Also on my DreamElite image theres a Tone Ampitude setting where im guessing you can change the Amptitude from about 600 up to 1200 where i think this helps with extra power for the motor.

this will not make a full change to your settings unless you say"yes" on exit and is easily reversed in anycase.
menu>installation>motorised settings>diseqc motor scroll to 1.2 you can then drop to the move line and move the dish manually either East or West.but make sure you have(a)the satellite you are after on the top line and (b)an active transponder in the 2nd line. if trying for 1 West use 11.860 H 28000. if 28.2 East 11.952 H 27500 if 13 East 12.595 V 27500 if 19.2 East 11.598 V 22000.these are all active and strong TPs.Last edited by dick b; 1 July, 2011, 13:28.Comment

Hi dick b and other dk members. I did as you said above. I selected 13 east and the transponder and moved the dish manually until i had the best signal and quality using the fine move to 92 and 97 in the levels. i then went outside and checked the dish had moved and it had done so and definetly looked to be pointing to 13 east. I then went to save pressed ok. the motor then moved my dish back to my previous position of 19 east showed the station rtl that i had been watching for a split second before it then lost all signal. i then tried to send the dish to the saved 13 east but just got lost again. I then done the same procedure again doing 19 east this time best transponder and so pressed save ok and exit and all ok on that sat it just doesn,t seem able to lock on any of the others. The motor is definetly moving as i put it from east to west going outside to check it had moved. Any help greatly appreciated and many thanks for all help so far.Comment

OK lets try again with Usals this time.
Do a hardware reset as I outlined in an earlier post.
then menu>installations>motorised settings put 1West on the top line 11.860 H 28000 on the Transponder line Usals on the diseqc motor line dont touch the move or motor control lines, make sure 1W is on the sat degree line.then go to the position setting line and check the long and lat positions are correct for your locale(the lat on the motor should be the same)if they are incorrect >ok and alter them.then exit back to the motorised settings menu and drop to the go to line>ok.when motor has stopped you now need to move the whole motor/dish assembly L/R to get maximum quality signal, you may also have to move just the dish up/down. then red button (scan) when scan is finished it should go to full screen.and the other sats should be found automatically.
NB:do not exit before scan or the motor will move to the previous sat.as that sounds what has been happening.Last edited by dick b; 3 July, 2011, 13:34.Comment

yeah be careful and put a car exhaust clamp under the motor to stop it sliding down the pole when slackened, you could try doing it the diseqc 1.2 way again as I outlined but as said you must scan once the sat is found otherwise the box will send the motor back to the previous sat by default.(off to watch the tennis now)Comment
