    Sky+ without subscription?

    Hi guys.

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section, or if my question has been answered elsewhere. I've done a few searches and not found the answer to my question.

I've recently moved into a house that already has a Sky Digital dish. I want to get the full Sky+ HD package, but i'm waiting for a better offer than the one they've currently got, so at the moment i have no subscription.

A mate has given me a Sky+ box (Amstrad DRX280). I've plugged the 2 connections from the dish into the back of the box, and can view BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, etc. (but not C5 at the moment).

Can i use the Sky+ feature of the box to record programs without a subscription? If not, what's the cheapest way of activating it? I want to make sure that i'm still eligible for any 'new customer' offers that Sky introduce, so i don't want to be a proper Sky customer (if that makes sense). I'm not looking for anything illegal either, of course.

My second, less important question is: i think i can tune the box in so it picks up my local BBC1 (rather than BBC1 London), and so it picks up Channel 5. Is that right?

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies. :-)

you either pay sky for a package or dont pay and you have a fresat box with no recording facility, other choice may be another sat box and a sub

Simple answer to your question is you can,t use sky plus for recording anything, you need to have an active package from them. However if you wanted to connect a freesat recorder box rather than sky you could do this. Ihope this helps.

sky can supply a card to match your box number as its mated with your box alone, but you need a subscription for it to work.
other boxes can work with card sharing and a sub, have a read around the sat section,as we are not allowed to talk about it,
                google is handy also.
