    Dish settings.

The person that set up my motorized dish used longitude 1.5 w and 51.2 n latitude. When I go to dishpointer I see the references as -1.98 W and 52.41 N respectively .Was this an error on his part and would this have an effect on the signal strength (quality) I receive. If the settings is wrong do I just input the correct settings in the receiver or do I have to adjust the dish as well.Any advice will be appreciated.

if all is working well I"d leave well alone as it will cope with that slight degree of error.
But if you want to re-set it you should put your correct latitude on the motor scale and that same latitude in your stb along with your correct longitude. you will then have to re-align the dish to suit.using usals send the dish/motor to a target sat of your choice(most use either 1W or 28.2E)you will then have to move the whole motor/dish assembly L/R and just the dish up/down to get max signal from your target sat but make sure you have an active transponder set.
you then fine tune by altering the longitude only by 0.2 degrees at a time east/west to get maximum signal do not move the latitude.
but your fitter may have tuned it in OK so as said if it aint broke dont mend it.

Thanks very much for your advice.Presently I don,t get a very good signal on thor 1W and other sats which i think I should be able to receive with an 80cm dish(Birmingham)

Why not experiment by sending your sat to Thor and then changing you lon/lat settings to if there is any chang in signal.

Manually move the dish, both ways, by the Positioner setup to see if the signal is better.
If you do alter the long and lat, the box will want you to do another scan search on all the sat's.

you should not have any signal probs on Thor at 1W with an 80cm dish if you do decide to have a go at aligning it yourself make sure your mounting pole is 100% plumb and the dish is 100% central on the motor spigot before you start.then send the dish to 1W by usals and in your motor set up menu put 11.862 H 28000 in as your active TP (BBC world) then tune in as outlined above in my previous post.you will not have to re-scan on most boxes unless you want to,certainly not on the std technomates. As "curious123" says though have a play with the box settings 1st and see what you get.

by the way negative longitude is West so I"d start off with 2.0W as your longitude.
            ps.what box do you have?
